Bottle of Petite Sirah with chocolate

2018 Petite Sirah Port

This port recently received a silver medal at the Los Angeles Invitational Wine Challenge in February 2023. This award-winning port has deep, rich, flavors from beginning to end. Garnet in color with hints of dark chocolate and tobacco leaf on the nose. The flavor fills your mouth with dried cherries and brown sugar. The lingering finish is reminiscent of dark cherry, black currant, and star anise.

When we started producing ports, we started with petite sirah. This grape has proven itself as a terrific grape to work with when making port. The grape stands up well to hanging on the vine longer than traditional wine grapes, so we are able to get the concentrated sugars without losing the character of the petite sirah grape. The grapes are grown in Clarksburg, CA along the Delta and this climate is perfect for this grape. The days are hot and the delta breeze cools everything down at night.

This port was aged in neutral oak barrels for just over 4 years in our cellar. Before going into barrels, right after fermentation, we fortified using a neutral grape-based fortifying spirit that we age in large wooden barrels in a unique solera style system for 12-18 months. The aged spirit adds additional character to the port. Our mission is to give you a port that is well-balanced where the grape character shines through while balancing the sweetness and the alcohol.

This port is a club favorite! 375ml
